Weekly Project Update – August 6, 2021
The following work is scheduled over the next three weeks:
Garden State Parkway Mileposts 140 to 143
On November 14, 2020, traffic on the Northbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.9 and 142.1 was shifted to the left in a new traffic pattern. All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced.
On November 21, 2020, traffic on the Southbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 141.0 and 142.2 was shifted to the left in a new traffic pattern. All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced.
On or about August 12, 2021, traffic on the Northbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.9 and 142.1 will be shifted to a new traffic pattern. All existing travel lanes will remain open, but lane widths will be reduced.
On or about August 23, 2021, traffic on the Southbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 141.0 and 142.2 will be shifted to a new traffic pattern. All existing travel lanes will remain open, but lane widths will be reduced.
Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages will be deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Northbound Roadway near MP 139.3 and Southbound Roadway near MP 143.0.
The installation of the new traffic pattern will be performed under temporary nightly lane closures.
There will also be temporary half-ramp closures of the exit ramps at Northbound 139A, 139B and 140 and Southbound 141 in order to install the new traffic pattern, but the exit ramps will remain open at all times.
On or about August 10, 2021, installation of beam guide rail and guide rail attachments will begin along Northbound and Southbound Garden State Parkway Roadways. This work may require shoulder closures on either the Northbound or Southbound Garden State Parkway from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
On or about August 10, 2021, asphalt paving of bridge approaches at Structures 141.3, 141.7 and 141.9 will begin along Northbound and Southbound Garden State Parkway Roadways. This work may require shoulder closures on either the Northbound or Southbound Garden State Parkway from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM and periodic single lane closures on either the Northbound or Southbound Garden State Parkway from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
On or about August 12, 2021, temporary striping for the Stage 2 traffic shift will begin along the Northbound Garden State Parkway Roadway. This work will require lane closures on the Northbound Garden State Parkway from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
On or about August 23, 2021, temporary striping for the Stage 2 traffic shift will begin along the Southbound Garden State Parkway Roadway. This work will require lane closures on Southbound Garden State Parkway from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
Bridge No. 140.2, GSP under Galloping Hill Road
On April 6, 2021, removal of existing timber shielding and installation of new timber shielding and other temporary support structures under the bridge began and will continue throughout the month of August 2021. This work will require periodic single lane to three lane closures on either the Northbound or Southbound Garden State Parkway from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
On or about August 23, 2021, installation of utility supports and conduits for PSE&G and Verizon lines will begin and will continue throughout the month of August 2021. This work will require periodic single lane to three lane closures on either the Northbound or Southbound Garden State Parkway from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
Bridge No. 141.3, GSP over Route 22 EB
On May 10, 2021, substructure repairs at the South abutment of Structure 141.3 began and will continue throughout the month of August 2021. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 22EB from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
On June 23, 2021, bearing replacement along North abutment of Structure 141.3 began and will continue throughout the month of August 2021. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 22EB from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
On or about August 6, 2021, installation of steel reinforcement for the parapet on the bridge deck at Structure 141.3 SB will begin and will continue until August 11, 2021.
On or about August 11, 2021, concrete placement for parapet on the bridge at Structure 141.3 SB will begin and will continue until August 17, 2021. This work will not require lane closures.
On or about August 9, 2021, welding the bottom of the beam flanges to the expansion bearings at Structure 141.3 will begin. This work will require single lane closure on Route 22EB from 8:00 PM to 3:00 AM This work will not require lane closures.
Bridge No. 141.7, GSP over Morris Avenue (Route 82)
On June 2, 2021, substructure repairs at the pier of Structure 141.7 began and will continue throughout the month of August 2021. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 82EB and Route 82WB from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
On June 30, 2021, bearing replacement at Structure 141.7 began and will continue throughout the month of August 2021. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 82WB from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Bridge No. 141.9, GSP over Route 22 WB
Concrete placement for parapet on the bridge and wingwalls at Structure 141.9 NB was completed on August 4, 2021.
On August 5, 2021, concrete placement for parapet on the bridge and wingwalls at Structure 141.9 SB will begin and will continue until August 11, 2021. This work will not require lane closures.
