Weekly Project Update – October 15, 2021
The following work is scheduled over the next three weeks:
Garden State Parkway Mileposts 140 to 143
On November 14, 2020, traffic on the Northbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.9 and 142.1 was shifted to the left in a new traffic pattern. All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced.
On or about October 21, 2021, traffic on the Northbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.9 and 142.1 will be shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 2). All existing travel lanes will remain open, but lane widths will be reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages will be deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Northbound Roadway near MP 139.3. The installation of the new traffic pattern will be performed under temporary nightly lane closures. This work will require two nights to complete traffic shift. There will also be temporary half-ramp closures of the exit ramps at Northbound 139A, 139B and 140 in order to install the new traffic pattern, but the exit ramps will remain open at all times. Entrance Ramps to Northbound Garden State Parkway from Chestnut Street, Route 22 EB, and Morris Avenue will be temporary closed one at the time for a short period of time in order to install the new traffic pattern, but detours will be provided.
On or about October 21, 2021, temporary striping for the Stage 2 traffic shift will begin along the Northbound Garden State Parkway Roadway. This work will require lane closures on the Northbound Garden State Parkway from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
On October 7, 2021, traffic on the Southbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 141.0 and 142.2 was shifted to a new traffic pattern. All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced.
Bridge No. 140.2, GSP under Galloping Hill Road
On April 6, 2021, removal of existing timber shielding and installation of new timber shielding and other temporary support structures under the bridge began and will continue throughout the month of October 2021. This work will require periodic single lane to three lane closures on either the Northbound or Southbound Garden State Parkway from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
On or about October 25, 2021, installation of utility supports and conduits for PSE&G and Verizon lines will begin and will continue throughout the month of October 2021. This work will require periodic single lane to three lane closures on either the Northbound or Southbound Garden State Parkway from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
Bridge No. 141.3, GSP over Route 22 EB
On May 10, 2021, substructure repairs at the South abutment of Structure 141.3 began and will continue throughout the month of October 2021. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 22EB from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
On June 23, 2021, bearing replacement along North abutment of Structure 141.3 began and will continue throughout the month of October 2021. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 22EB from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
Removal of timber shielding and other temporary support structures under the bridge within Stage 1 will continue throughout month of October 2021. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 22 EB from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
Milling of asphalt pavement over Structure 141.3 in the Southbound direction was completed on October 11, 2021.
On October 11, 2021, demolition of the bridge deck in the work zone in the Southbound direction at Structure 141.3 began and will continue throughout month of October 2021. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 22EB from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
On or about October 25, 2021, milling of asphalt pavement over Structure 141.3 in the Northbound direction will begin.
On or about October 25, 2021, demolition of the bridge deck in the work zone in the Northbound direction at Structure 141.3 will begin.
Bridge No. 141.7, GSP over Morris Avenue (Route 82)
On June 30, 2021, bearing replacement at Structure 141.7 began and will continue throughout the month of October 2021. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 82WB from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Removal of timber shielding and other temporary support structures under the bridge within Stage 1 will continue throughout month of October 2021. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 82 EB and WB from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
On October 11, 2021, milling of asphalt pavement over Structure 141.7 in the Southbound direction was completed.
On or about October 25, 2021, hydro demolition of the bridge deck in the work zone in the Southbound direction at Structure 141.7 will begin. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 82 WB/EB from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
On or about October 25, 2021, milling of asphalt pavement over Structure 141.7 in the Northbound direction will begin.
On or about October 25, 2021, demolition of the bridge deck in the work zone in the Northbound direction at structure 141.7 will begin.
Bridge No. 141.9, GSP over Route 22 WB
Removal of timber shielding and other temporary support structures under the bridge within Stage 1 will continue throughout month of October 2021. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 22 WB from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
On October 11, 2021, milling of asphalt pavement over Structure 141.9 in the Southbound direction was completed.
