Weekly Project Update – December 10, 2021
The following work is scheduled over the next three weeks:
Garden State Parkway Mileposts 140 to 143
On October 21 and 22 of 2021, traffic on the Northbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.9 and 142.1 was shifted to a new traffic pattern. All existing travel lanes remain open with the exception of the right lane, but lane widths have been reduced.
On October 7, 2021, traffic on the Southbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 141.0 and 142.2 was shifted to a new traffic pattern. All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced.
On or about December 15, 2021, paving of the approaches on the Southbound Garden State Parkway at Structures 141.3, 141.7 and 141.9 will begin.
On or about December 17, 2021, traffic on the Southbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 141.0 and 142.2 will be shifted to a new traffic pattern. Southbound traffic lanes will be split with shifted 2 lanes to the left and 2 lanes shifted to the right beginning at Vauxhall Rd. All existing travel lanes will remain open, but lane widths will be reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages will be deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Southbound Roadway near MP 143.0. The installation of the new traffic pattern will be performed under temporary nightly lane closures. There will also be temporary half-ramp closures of the exit ramps at Southbound 140B and 141 in order to install the new traffic pattern, but the exit ramps will remain open at all times. Exit ramp Southbound 140A will be closed in order to install the new traffic pattern and a detour will be provided during the duration of the work.
Bridge No. 140.2, GSP under Galloping Hill Road
On April 6, 2021, removal of existing timber shielding and installation of new timber shielding and other temporary support structures under the bridge began. This operation is temporarily on hold until January 2022.
On or about January 2, 2022, installation of utility supports and conduits for PSE&G and Verizon lines will begin. This work will require periodic single lane to three lane closures on either the Northbound or Southbound Garden State Parkway from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
Bridge No. 141.3, GSP over Route 22 EB
On May 10, 2021, substructure repairs at the South abutment of Structure 141.3 began and will continue throughout the month of December 2021. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 22EB from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
On June 23, 2021, bearing replacement along the North abutment of Structure 141.3 began and will continue throughout the month of December 2021. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 22EB from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
Removal of timber shielding and other temporary support structures under the bridge within Stage 1 will continue throughout the month of December 2021. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 22 EB from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
On December 7, 2021, abrasive blasting (surface preparation) and application of zinc primer on structural members at Structure 141.3 SB was completed.
On December 10, 2021, installation of stay in place forms for the bridge deck at Structure 141.3 NB was completed.
On or about December 13, 2021, installation of steel reinforcement for the bridge deck at Structure 141.3 NB will begin.
On or about December 16, 2021, concrete placement for bridge deck in Stage 2 at Structure 141.3 NB will begin.
Bridge No. 141.7, GSP over Morris Avenue (Route 82)
On June 30, 2021, bearing replacement at Structure 141.7 began and will continue throughout the month of December 2021. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 82WB from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Removal of timber shielding and other temporary support structures under the bridge within Stage 1 will continue throughout month of December 2021. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 82 EB and WB from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
On December 9, 2021, installation of steel reinforcement for the bridge deck at Structure 141.7 NB began and will continue until December 13, 2021.
On or about December 16, 2021, concrete placement for bridge deck in Stage 2 at Structure 141.7 NB will begin. This work will require closure of the Entrance Ramp from Route 22 EB. A detour will be provided during duration of the work.
Bridge No. 141.9, GSP over Route 22 WB
Removal of timber shielding and other temporary support structures under the bridge within Stage 1 will continue throughout the month of December 2021. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 22 WB from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
On or about December 15, 2021, installation of steel reinforcement for the bridge deck at Structure 141.9NB will begin.
On December 8, 2021, installation of temporary supports for the bridge deck in Stage 2 at Structure 141.9 NB began and will continue until December 15, 2021.
