Weekly Project Update – May 26, 2023
The following work is scheduled over the next three weeks:
Garden State Parkway Mileposts 140 to 143
On September 9, 2022, traffic on the Southbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.1 and 142.2 was shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 5, 6, and 7). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages were deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Southbound Roadway near MP 138.4. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.
On September 30, 2022, traffic on the Northbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.1 and 142.2 was shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 5, 6, and 7). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages were deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Northbound Roadway near MP 139.3. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.
On November 16, 2022, reconstruction of existing inlets along the median barrier began. Reconstruction of existing inlets along the median barrier in Stage 5 was completed on April 28, 2023. Reconstruction of existing inlets along the median barrier in Stages 6 and 7 will continue until approximately June 9, 2023.
On January 16, 2023, construction of foundations for median barrier in Stages 6 and 7 along NB and SB Roadways began. This operation will continue until approximately June 9, 2023.
On March 23, 2023, installation of steel reinforcement for median barrier in Stages 6 and 7 along NB and SB Roadways began. This operation will continue until approximately June 9, 2023.
Demolition of existing median barrier in stages 5, 6, and 7 was completed on March 24, 2023, with the exception of 100 LF North of Structure 140.2 which will be completed by June 9, 2023.
On May 2, 2023, backfilling with Grade A between median barriers in Stage 5 began. This operation will continue until approximately May 31, 2023.
On May 16, 2023, concrete placement for median barrier in Stages 6 and 7 along the Garden State Parkway Northbound and Southbound Roadways began. This operation will continue until approximately June 23, 2023.
Precast concrete construction barrier and temporary impact attenuators utilized in Stage 5 along the Garden State Parkway Southbound Roadways were removed on May 24, 2023. The traffic pattern for Stages 5, 6, and 7 remains in place.
On or about June 1, 2023, precast concrete construction barrier and temporary impact attenuators utilized in Stage 5 along the Garden State Parkway Northbound will be removed. The traffic pattern for Stages 5, 6, and 7 will remain in place.
On or about June 5, 2023, demolition of existing median barrier between Structures 141.0 and 141.2 will begin. This area was previously utilized as an emergency pull off area. This operation will continue until approximately June 9, 2023.
Bridge No. 140.2, GSP under Galloping Hill Road
On November 9, 2022, traffic on Galloping Hill Road was shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 1A). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced.
On April 17, 2023, bearing replacement and bearing area reconstruction along the pier of Structure 140.2 began. This operation will continue until approximately June 5, 2023.
On May 23, 2023, installation of steel reinforcement for bridge deck in Stage 1A began. This work will not require lane closures. This operation will continue until approximately May 30, 2023.
On or about May 31, 2023, concrete placement for bridge deck in Stage 1A at Structure 140.2 will begin.
Bridge No. 141.3, GSP over Route 22 EB
On May 22, 2023, removal of temporary walkway and shielding under the bridge began. This operation will continue until approximately June 9, 2023.
Bridge No. 141.7, GSP over Morris Avenue (Route 82)
On May 4, 2023, installation of SSPC Class 1A containment system for repainting structural steel at Structure 141.7 began. This operation will continue until approximately June 9, 2023.
Bridge No. 141.9, GSP over Route 22 WB
At this time, no construction activities scheduled at this location.
