Weekly Project Update – June 30, 2023
The following work is scheduled over the next three weeks:
Garden State Parkway Mileposts 140 to 143
On September 9, 2022, traffic on the Southbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.1 and 142.2 was shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 5, 6, and 7). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages were deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Southbound Roadway near MP 138.4. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.
On September 30, 2022, traffic on the Northbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.1 and 142.2 was shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 5, 6, and 7). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages were deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Northbound Roadway near MP 139.3. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.
On November 16, 2022, reconstruction of existing inlets along the median barrier began. Reconstruction of existing inlets along the median barrier in Stage 5 was completed on April 28, 2023. Reconstruction of existing inlets along the median barrier in Stages 6 and 7 will continue until approximately July 14, 2023.
On January 16, 2023, construction of foundations for median barrier in Stages 6 and 7 along NB and SB Roadways began. This operation will continue until approximately July 14, 2023.
On March 23, 2023, installation of steel reinforcement for median barrier in Stages 6 and 7 along NB and SB Roadways began. This operation will continue until approximately July 14, 2023.
Demolition of existing median barrier in stages 5, 6, and 7 was completed on March 24, 2023, with the exception of 100 LF North of Structure 140.2 which will be completed by approximately July 7, 2023.
On May 16, 2023, concrete placement for median barrier in Stages 6 and 7 along the Garden State Parkway Northbound and Southbound Roadways began. This operation will continue until approximately July 14, 2023.
On or about August 14, 2023, MPT will be removed and traffic on the Southbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.1 and 142.2 will be shifted back to original configuration. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages will be deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Southbound Roadway near MP 138.4. This work will be performed under temporary nightly lane closures.
On or about August 21, 2023, paving of the mainline roadway on the Southbound Garden State Parkway will begin. This work will be performed under temporary nightly lane closures.
Bridge No. 140.2, GSP under Galloping Hill Road
On November 9, 2022, traffic on Galloping Hill Road was shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 1A). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced.
Bearing replacement and bearing area reconstruction along the pier of Structure 140.2 with the exception of anchor bolts were completed on June 23, 2023.
Installation of steel reinforcement for headblocks and parapet on wingwalls was completed on June 26, 2023.
Concrete placement for wingwalls and headblocks was completed on June 28, 2023.
On or about July 5, 2023, concrete placement for parapet on wingwalls will begin.
On or abut July 5, 2023, installation of temporary fence for Stage 1B will begin.
On or about July 12, 2023, demolition of existing structure in Stage 1B will begin.
Bridge No. 141.3, GSP over Route 22 EB
On May 22, 2023, removal of temporary walkway and shielding under the bridge began. This operation will continue until approximately July 14, 2023. In July 2023 nightly closures on Rt 22 EB for removing the existing paint and installing the new coating system will begin.
On or about July 17, 2023, abrasive blasting (surface preparation) and application of zinc primer on structural members at Structure 141.3 will begin.
Bridge No. 141.7, GSP over Morris Avenue (Route 82)
Abrasive blasting (surface preparation) and application of zinc primer on structural members at Structure 141.7 was completed on June 28, 2023.
On June 30, 2023, application of intermediate and finish coat on structural members at Structure 141.7 will begin.
Bridge No. 141.9, GSP over Route 22 WB
In August 2023 nightly closures on Rt 22 WB for removing the existing paint and installing the new coating system will begin.
