Weekly Project Update – August 25, 2023
The following work is scheduled over the next three weeks:
Garden State Parkway Mileposts 140 to 143
On September 9, 2022, traffic on the Southbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.1 and 142.2 was shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 5, 6, and 7). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages were deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Southbound Roadway near MP 138.4. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.
On September 30, 2022, traffic on the Northbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.1 and 142.2 was shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 5, 6, and 7). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages were deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Northbound Roadway near MP 139.3. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.
On November 16, 2022, reconstruction of existing inlets along the median barrier began. Reconstruction of existing inlets along the median barrier in Stage 5 was completed on April 28, 2023. Reconstruction of existing inlets along the median barrier in Stages 6 and 7 will continue until approximately August 29, 2023.
On March 23, 2023, installation of steel reinforcement for median barrier in Stages 6 and 7 along NB and SB Roadways began. This operation will continue until approximately August 29, 2023.
On May 16, 2023, concrete placement for median barrier in Stages 6 and 7 along the Garden State Parkway Northbound and Southbound Roadways began. This operation will continue until approximately September 1, 2023.
Construction of foundations for median barrier in Stages 6 and 7 along NB and SB Roadways is complete with the exception of 100 LF north of Structure 140.2 which will be completed by approximately August 28, 2023.
On or about September 7, 2023, removal of MPT and shifting traffic back to original configuration on the Southbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.1 and 142.2 will begin. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages will be deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Southbound Roadway near MP 138.4. This work will be performed under temporary nightly lane closures and will be completed by approximately September 9, 2023.
On or about September 14, 2023, removal of MPT and shifting traffic back to original configuration on the Northbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.1 and 142.2 will begin. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages will be deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Northbound Roadway near MP 139.3. This work will be performed under temporary nightly lane closures and will be completed by approximately September 16, 2023.
On or about September 11, 2023, paving of the mainline roadway on the Southbound Garden State Parkway will begin. This work will be performed under temporary nightly lane closures.
On or about September 18, 2023, paving of the mainline roadway on the Northbound Garden State Parkway will begin. This work will be performed under temporary nightly lane closures.
Bridge No. 140.2, GSP under Galloping Hill Road
On November 9, 2022, traffic on Galloping Hill Road was shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 1A). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced.
On July 17, 2023, bearing replacement (anchor bolts) on the pier at Structure 140.2 resumed. This operation will continue until approximately September 1, 2023.
Installation of stay in pace forms and shear connectors in Stage 1B was completed on August 21, 2023.
On August 21, 2023, installation of steel reinforcement for bridge deck in Stage 1B began and will continue until approximately August 26, 2023.
On or about August 29, 2023, concrete placement for bridge deck in Stage 1B will begin.
On or about August 31, 2023, concrete placement for headblocks in Stage 1B will begin.
On or about September 7, 2023, paving approaches to and from bridge deck in Stage 1A and 1B will begin.
On or about September 15, 2023, traffic on Galloping Hill Road will be shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 2). All existing travel lanes will remain open, but lane widths will be reduced.
Bridge No. 141.3, GSP over Route 22 EB
On July 20, 2023, repainting of structural steel at Structure 141.3 began. This operation will continue until approximately August 31, 2023. This work will require periodic single lane closures on RT 22 EB from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
Bridge No. 141.7, GSP over Morris Avenue (Route 82)
On or about August 10, 2023, bearing replacement (anchor bolts) on the North and South abutments in Stage 5 at Structure 141.7 will resume. This operation will continue until approximately September 22, 2023.
Bridge No. 141.9, GSP over Route 22 WB
On or about September 6, 2023, repainting of structural steel at Structure 141.9 will begin. This operation will continue until approximately September 29, 2023. This work will require periodic single lane closures on RT 22 WB from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
