Weekly Project Update – December 9, 2022

The following work is scheduled over the next three weeks:

Garden State Parkway Mileposts 140 to 143

On September 9, 2022, traffic on the Southbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.1 and 142.2 was shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 5, 6, and 7). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages were deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Southbound Roadway near MP 138.4. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.

On September 30, 2022, traffic on the Northbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.1 and 142.2 was shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 5, 6, and 7). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages were deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Northbound Roadway near MP 139.3. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.

On October 3, 2022, demolition of existing median barrier in stages 5, 6, and 7 began and will continue until approximately December 31, 2022.  This work may require periodic single lane closures on Garden State Parkway in the Northbound or Southbound directions from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM.

On November 16, 2022, reconstruction of existing inlets along the median barrier began. This operation will continue until approximately January 31, 2023.

Bridge No. 140.2, GSP under Galloping Hill Road

On November 9, 2022, traffic on Galloping Hill Road was shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 1A). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced.

On November 14, 2022, construction activities (demolition of bridge deck and installation of duct bank for PSE&G) in Stage 1A at Galloping Hill Road began. This operation will continue until approximately December 30, 2022. This work will require periodic single lane closures on Galloping Hill Road from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Bridge No. 141.3, GSP over Route 22 EB

Installation of stay in place forms and shear connectors for bridge deck at Structure 141.3 (NB/SB) was completed on December 8, 2022.

On December 8, 2022, installation of steel reinforcement for bridge deck at Structure 141.3 (NB/SB) began and will continue until approximately December 15, 2022.

On December 8, 2022, bearing replacement for Stage 5 at Structure 141.3 (NB/SB) began. This operation will continue until approximately December 23, 2022

On or about December 15, 2022, concrete placement for bridge deck in Stage 5 at Structure 141.3 (NB/SB) will begin.

Bridge No. 141.7, GSP over Morris Avenue (Route 82)

On or about December 12, 2022, bearing replacement for Stage 5 at Structure 141.7 will resume and will continue until approximately December 16, 2022.

Bridge No. 141.9, GSP over Route 22 WB

On November 21, 2022, installation of intermediate and end diaphragms for Stage 5 at Structure 141.9 (NB/SB) began. This operation will continue until approximately December 13, 2022. 

On December 8, 2022, installation of stay in place forms and shear connectors for bridge deck at Structure 141.9 (NB/SB) began and will continue until approximately December 13, 2022.

On or about December 15, 2022, installation of steel reinforcement for bridge deck at Structure 141.9 (SB) will begin. This operation will continue until approximately December 19, 2022.

On or about December 19, 2022, demolition of existing bridge deck in Stage 5 at Structure 141.9 (GSP NB) will begin. This operation will continue until approximately December 22, 2022. 

On or about December 19, 2022, bearing replacement and bearing area reconstruction for Stage 5 at Structure 141.9 (NB) will resume. This operation will continue until approximately December 23, 2022.

On or about December 20, 2022, concrete placement for bridge deck in Stage 5 at Structure 141.3 (SB) will begin.
