Weekly Project Update – May 12, 2023
The following work is scheduled over the next three weeks:
Garden State Parkway Mileposts 140 to 143
On September 9, 2022, traffic on the Southbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.1 and 142.2 was shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 5, 6, and 7). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages were deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Southbound Roadway near MP 138.4. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.
On September 30, 2022, traffic on the Northbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.1 and 142.2 was shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 5, 6, and 7). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages were deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Northbound Roadway near MP 139.3. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.
On November 16, 2022, reconstruction of existing inlets along the median barrier began. Reconstruction of existing inlets along the median barrier in Stage 5 was completed on April 28, 2023. Reconstruction of existing inlets along the median barrier in Stages 6 and 7 will continue until approximately May 31, 2023.
On January 16, 2023, construction of foundations for median barrier in Stages 6 and 7 along NB and SB Roadways began. This operation will continue until approximately May 31, 2023.
On March 23, 2023, installation of steel reinforcement for median barrier in Stages 6 and 7 along NB and SB Roadways began. This operation will continue until approximately May 31, 2023.
Demolition of existing median barrier in stages 5, 6, and 7 was completed on March 24, 2023, with the exception of 100 LF North of Structure 140.2 which will be done at a later date.
Concrete placement for median barrier in Stage 5 along NB and SB Roadways was completed on May 10, 2023.
Paving in front of the newly constructed median barrier in Stage 5 along the Garden State Parkway Northbound and Southbound Roadways was completed on May 10, 2023.
On or about May 16, 2023, concrete placement for median barrier in Stages 6 and 7 along the Garden State Parkway Northbound and Southbound Roadways will begin. This operation will continue until approximately May 31, 2023.
On or about May 18, 2023, precast concrete construction barrier and temporary impact attenuators utilized in Stage 5 along the Garden State Parkway Southbound Roadways will be removed. The traffic pattern for Stages 5, 6, and 7 will remain in place.
On or about May 25, 2023, precast concrete construction barrier and temporary impact attenuators utilized in Stage 5 along the Garden State Parkway Northbound will be removed. The traffic pattern for Stages 5, 6, and 7 will remain in place.
On or about May 29, 2023, demolition of existing median barrier between structures 141.0 and 141.2 will begin. This area was previously utilized as an emergency pull off area. This operation will continue until approximately June 2, 2023.
Bridge No. 140.2, GSP under Galloping Hill Road
On November 9, 2022, traffic on Galloping Hill Road was shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 1A). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced.
On April 17, 2023, bearing replacement and bearing area reconstruction along the pier of Structure 140.2 began. This operation will continue until approximately May 26, 2023.
On or about May 15, 2023, installation of steel reinforcement for bridge deck in Stage 1 A will begin. This work will not require lane closures.
On or about May 19, 2023, concrete placement for bridge deck in Stage 1A At STR 140.2 will begin.
Bridge No. 141.3, GSP over Route 22 EB
On or about May 17, 2023, paving of approaches to bridge deck at STR 141.3 NB/SB will begin.
Bridge No. 141.7, GSP over Morris Avenue (Route 82)
On May 4, 2023, installation of SSPC Class 1A containment system for repainting structural steel at Structure 141.7 began. This operation will continue until approximately May 19, 2023.
On or about May 17, 2023, paving of approaches to bridge deck at STR 141.7 NB/SB will begin.
Bridge No. 141.9, GSP over Route 22 WB
On or about May 15, 2023, concrete placement for median barrier on bridge deck at STR 141.9 NB/SB will begin.
On or about May 16, 2023, installation of expansion joint at North abutment of STR. 141.9 SB will begin.
On or about May 17, 2023, paving of approaches to bridge deck at STR 141.9 NB/SB will begin.
