Weekly Project Update – May 13, 2022

The following work is scheduled over the next three weeks:

Garden State Parkway Mileposts 140 to 143

On April 2, 2022 traffic on the Northbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.9 and 142.1 will be shifted to a new traffic pattern. All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages were deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Northbound Roadway near MP 139.0. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.

On February 9, 2022 traffic on the Southbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 141.0 and 142.2 was shifted to a new traffic pattern. All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages were deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Southbound Roadway near MP 143.0. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.

On May 4, 2022, traffic on the Southbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.2 and 140.4 was shifted to a new traffic pattern. All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages were deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Southbound Roadway near MP 138.4. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.

On or about May 18, 2022, traffic on the Southbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 141.0 and 142.2 will be shifted to a new traffic pattern. All existing travel lanes will remain open, but lane widths will be reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages will be deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Southbound Roadway near MP 143.0. The installation of the new traffic pattern will require double lane to three lane closures on the Southbound Garden State Parkway from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM. 

Bridge No. 140.2, GSP under Galloping Hill Road

On January 10, 2022, installation of new timber shielding and other temporary support structures under the bridge and installation of overhang brackets for shielding resumed and will continue throughout month of May 2022. This operation is running concurrently with installation of conduits for PSE&G and Verizon. This work will require periodic single lane to two lane closures on either the Northbound or Southbound Garden State Parkway from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM.  

On April 4, 2022, installation of conduits for PSE&G and Verizon began and will continue throughout month of May 2022. This work will require periodic single lane to three lane closures on either the Northbound or Southbound Garden State Parkway from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM. 

Bridge No. 141.3, GSP over Route 22 EB

On May 10, 2021, substructure repairs at the South abutment of Structure 141.3 began and will continue throughout the month of May 2022. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 22EB from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM.

On June 23, 2021, bearing replacement along the North abutment of Structure 141.3 began and will continue throughout the month of May 2022.

Removal of timber shielding and other temporary support structures under the bridge within Stage 1 will continue throughout the month of May 2022. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 22 EB from 8PM to 5AM.

Installation of beam bolsters on structural members at Structure 141.3 NB was completed on May 12. 2022.

On or about May 23, 2022, concrete placement for bridge deck in Stage 3 at Structure 141.3 NB will begin. 

On or about May 16, 2022, installation of the stay in place forms and shear connectors for the bridge deck at Structure 141.3 NB will begin.

On or about May 18, 2022, installation of the steel reinforcement for the bridge deck at Structure 141.3 NB will begin. This work will not require lane closures.

On or about May 16, 2022, asphalt overlay at top of approach slabs at Structure 141.3 SB will begin.

Bridge No. 141.7, GSP over Morris Avenue (Route 82)

On June 30, 2021, bearing replacement at Structure 141.7 began and will continue throughout the month of May 2022. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 82WB from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Removal of timber shielding and other temporary support structures under the bridge within stage 2 will continue throughout month of May 2022. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 82 EB and WB from 7AM to 3PM.

On or about May 23, 2022, concrete placement for bridge deck in Stage 3 at Structure 141.7 NB will begin.

Installation of the stay in place forms for the bridge deck at Structure 141.7 NB was completed on May 10, 2022.

On or about May 16, 2022, installation of the steel reinforcement for the bridge deck at Structure 141.7 NB will begin. This work will not require lane closures.

On or about May 16, 2022, asphalt overlay at top of approach slabs at Structure 141.7 SB will begin.

Bridge No. 141.9, GSP over Route 22 WB

Removal of timber shielding and other temporary support structures under the bridge within stages 1 and 2 will continue throughout the month of May 2022. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 22 WB from 8PM to 5AM.

On April 12, 2021, bearing replacement at Structure 141.9 began and will continue throughout the month of May 2022. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 22WB from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM.

On or about May 23, 2022, concrete placement for bridge deck in Stage 3 at Structure 141.9 NB will begin.

On May 9, 2022, installation of temporary supports and formwork for bridge deck at Structure 141.9 NB began and will continue till May 18, 2022.

On or about May 18, 2022, installation of the steel reinforcement for the bridge deck at Structure 141.9 NB will begin. This work will not require lane closures.

Installation of the shear connectors for the bridge deck at Structure 141.9 NB was completed on May 10, 2022.  

On or about May 16, 2022, asphalt overlay at top of approach slabs at Structure 141.9 SB will begin.
