Weekly Project Update – June 10, 2022

The following work is scheduled over the next three weeks:

Garden State Parkway Mileposts 140 to 143

On April 2, 2022, traffic on the Northbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.9 and 142.1 was shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 3). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages were deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Northbound Roadway near MP 139.0. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.

On May 4, 2022, traffic on the Southbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.2 and 140.4 was shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 4). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages were deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Southbound Roadway near MP 138.4. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.

On May 20, 2022, traffic on the Southbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 141.0 and 142.2 was shifted to a new traffic pattern. All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages were deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Southbound Roadway near MP 143.0. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.

On or about June 22, 2022, traffic on the Northbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.9 and 142.1 will be shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 4). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages will be deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Northbound Roadway near MP 139.0. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.

Bridge No. 140.2, GSP under Galloping Hill Road

On January 10, 2022, installation of new timber shielding and other temporary support structures under the bridge and installation of overhang brackets for shielding resumed and will continue until approximately June 17, 2022. This operation is running concurrently with installation of conduits for PSE&G and Verizon. This work will require periodic single lane to three lane closures on either the Northbound or Southbound Garden State Parkway from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM.  

On April 4, 2022, installation of conduits for PSE&G and Verizon began and will continue until approximately June 17, 2022. This work will require periodic single lane to three lane closures on either the Northbound or Southbound Garden State Parkway from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM. 

On May 17, 2022, bearing replacement along the West abutment of Structure 140.2 began and will continue until approximately June 17, 2022. This work will not require lane closures.

Bridge No. 141.3, GSP over Route 22 EB

Removal of asphalt overlay on top of the existing bridge deck followed by demolition of existing bridge deck in Stage 4 at Structure 141.3 (GSP SB) was completed on June 3, 2022.

Installation of the steel reinforcement for the bridge deck in Stage 3 at Structure 141.3 (GSP NB) was completed on June 8, 2022.

Installation of the end diaphragms in Stage 4 at Structure 141.3 (GSP SB) was completed on June 9, 2022.

Concrete placement for bridge deck in Stage 3 at Structure 141.3 (GSP NB) was completed on June 10, 2022.  

On or about June 20, 2022, asphalt overlay at top of approach slabs at Structure 141.3 (GSP NB) will begin.

On or about June 23, 2022, removal of asphalt overlay on top of the existing bridge deck followed by demolition of existing bridge deck in Stage 4 at Structure 141.3 (GSP NB) will begin. This operation will continue until approximately June 28, 2022. This work will not require lane closures.

On or about June 24, 2022, installation of beam bolsters on structural members in Stage 4 at Structure 141.3 (GSP SB) will begin. This work will not require lane closures.

Bridge No. 141.7, GSP over Morris Avenue (Route 82)

Removal of asphalt overlay on top of the existing bridge deck followed by hydro-demolition of existing bridge deck in Stage 4 at Structure 141.7 (GSP SB) was completed on June 10, 2022.

Concrete placement for bridge deck in Stage 3 at Structure 141.7 (GSP NB) was completed on June 10, 2022.  

On or about June 15, 2022, installation of expansion joints in Stage 4 at Structure 141.7 (GSP NB) will begin.

On or about June 20, 2022, asphalt overlay at top of approach slabs at Structure 141.7 (GSP NB) will begin.

On or about June 23, 2022, removal of asphalt overlay on top of the existing bridge deck followed by demolition of existing bridge deck in Stage 4 at Structure 141.7 (GSP NB) will begin. This operation will continue until approximately June 28, 2022. This work will not require lane closures.

Bridge No. 141.9, GSP over Route 22 WB

Removal of asphalt overlay on top of the existing bridge deck followed by demolition of existing bridge deck in Stage 4 at Structure 141.9 (GSP SB) was completed on June 6, 2022.

Concrete placement for bridge deck in Stage 3 at Structure 141.9 (GSP NB) was completed on June 10, 2022.  

On or about June 13, 2022, bearing replacement for Stage 4 along South abutment of Structure 141.9 will begin. This operation will continue until approximately June 17, 2022. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 22WB from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM.

On or about June 15, 2022, installation of expansion joints in Stage 4 at Structure 141.9 (GSP NB) will begin.

On or about June 20, 2022, asphalt overlay at top of approach slabs at Structure 141.9 (GSP NB) will begin.

On or about June 23, 2022, removal of asphalt overlay on top of the existing bridge deck followed by demolition of existing bridge deck in Stage 4 at Structure 141.9 (GSP NB) will begin. This operation will continue until approximately June 28, 2022. This work will not require lane closures.
