Weekly Project Update – July 22, 2022
The following work is scheduled over the next three weeks:
Garden State Parkway Mileposts 140 to 143
On May 4, 2022, traffic on the Southbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 141.0 and 142.2 was shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 4). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages were deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Southbound Roadway near MP 138.4. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.
On July 7, 2022, traffic on the Northbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.9 and 142.1 was shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 4). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages were deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Northbound Roadway near MP 139.3. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.
On July 11, 2022, traffic on the Northbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.2 and 140.5 was shifted to a new traffic pattern. All existing travel lanes will remain open, but lane widths will be reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages will deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Northbound Roadway near MP 139.0. The installation of the new traffic pattern will be performed under temporary nightly lane closures.
On or about July 29, 2022, traffic on the Southbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.2 and 140.4 will be shifted back to the original traffic configuration. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages will be deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Southbound Roadway near MP 143.0. The return to original traffic pattern will be performed under temporary nightly lane closures.
Bridge No. 140.2, GSP under Galloping Hill Road
On January 10, 2022, installation of new timber shielding and other temporary support structures under the bridge and installation of overhang brackets for shielding resumed and will continue until approximately July 29, 2022. This operation is running concurrently with installation of conduits for PSE&G and Verizon. This work will require periodic single lane to three lane closures on either the Northbound or Southbound Garden State Parkway from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
On April 4, 2022, installation of conduits for PSE&G and Verizon began and will continue until approximately July 29, 2022. This work will require periodic single lane to three lane closures on either the Northbound or Southbound Garden State Parkway from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
On July 18, 2022, bearing replacement along the East abutment of Structure 140.2 began. This operation will continue until approximately August 31, 2022. This work will not require lane closures.
Bridge No. 141.3, GSP over Route 22 EB
Installation of the stay in place forms and shear connectors for the bridge deck in Stage 4 at Structure 141.3 (GSP SB) was completed on July 18, 2022.
Removal of asphalt overlay on top of the existing bridge deck followed by demolition of existing bridge deck in Stage 4 at Structure 141.3 (GSP NB) was completed on July 21, 2022.
On or about July 22, 2022, installation of the end diaphragms in Stage 4 at Structure 141.3 (GSP NB) will begin.
On or about July 25, 2022, installation of the steel reinforcement for the bridge deck in Stage 4 at Structure 141.3 (GSP SB) will begin.
On or about August 4, 2022, concrete placement for bridge deck in Stage 4 at Structure 141.3 (GSP SB) will begin. This work will require single lane closure on the Southbound of Garden State Parkway from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM. This operation will be completed in the single night shift.
Bridge No. 141.7, GSP over Morris Avenue (Route 82)
On July 21, 2022, installation of the steel reinforcement for the bridge deck in Stage 4 at Structure 141.7 (GSP SB) began and will continue until approximately July 26, 2022.
Removal of asphalt overlay on top of the existing bridge deck followed by demolition of existing bridge deck in Stage 4 at Structure 141.7 (GSP NB) was competed on July 22, 2022.
On or about August 4, 2022, concrete placement for bridge deck in Stage 4 at Structure 141.3 (GSP SB) will begin. This work will require single lane closures on the Southbound of Garden State Parkway from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM. This operation will be completed in the single night shift.
Bridge No. 141.9, GSP over Route 22 WB
On July 12, 2022, removal of asphalt overlay on top of the existing bridge deck followed by demolition of existing bridge deck in Stage 4 at Structure 141.9 (GSP NB) began. This operation will continue until approximately July 27, 2022. This work will not require lane closures.
On or about July 22, 2022, installation of the steel reinforcement for the bridge deck in Stage 4 at Structure 141.9 (GSP SB) will begin.
On July 25, 2022, bearing replacement along the South abutment of Structure 141.9 will begin. This operation will continue until approximately July 29, 2022. This work will require periodic single lane closure on RT 22 WB from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
On July 25, 2022, bearing area replacement along the North abutment of Structure 141.9 will begin. This operation will continue until approximately July 29, 2022. This work will require periodic single lane closure on RT 22 WB from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
On or about August 4, 2022, concrete placement for bridge deck in Stage 4 at Structure 141.9 (GSP SB) will begin. This work will require single lane closures Southbound on the Garden State Parkway from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM. This operation will be completed in the single night shift.
