Weekly Project Update – September 9, 2022
The following work is scheduled over the next three weeks:
Garden State Parkway Mileposts 140 to 143
On July 7, 2022, traffic on the Northbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.9 and 142.1 was shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 4). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages were deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Northbound Roadway near MP 139.3. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.
On July 11, 2022, traffic on the Northbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.2 and 140.5 was shifted to a new traffic pattern. All existing travel lanes will remain open, but lane widths will be reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages will deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Northbound Roadway near MP 139.0. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.
On September 9, 2022, traffic on the Southbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 141.0 and 142.2 was shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 5, 6, and 7). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages were deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Southbound Roadway near MP 138.4. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.
Bridge No. 140.2, GSP under Galloping Hill Road
On July 18, 2022, bearing replacement along the East abutment of Structure 140.2 began. This operation will continue until approximately September 16, 2022. This work will not require lane closures.
Removal of the islands in the median of Galloping Hill Road at Structure 140.2 was completed on August 31, 2022.
On or about September 12, 2022, pulling and splicing wire for Verizon lines will begin. This work will not require lane closures on Galloping Hill Road, but police traffic directors will be assisting with directing traffic when needed.
Bridge No. 141.3, GSP over Route 22 EB
Paving of approaches to bridge deck at Structure 141.3 (GSP SB) was completed on August 29, 2022.
Installation of the stay in place forms and shear connectors for the bridge deck in Stage 4 at Structure 141.3 (GSP NB) was completed on August 30, 2022.
On September 12, 2022, installation of the steel reinforcement for bridge deck in Stage 4 at Structure 141.3 (GSP NB) will begin.
On or about September 12, 2022, removal of asphalt overlay and demolition of existing bridge deck in Stage 5 at Structure 141.3 (GSP SB) will begin.
On or about September 15, 2022, concrete placement for bridge deck in Stage 4 at Structure 141.3 (GSP NB) will begin. This work will require a single lane closure on the Northbound Garden State Parkway from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM. This operation will be completed in the single night shift.
Bridge No. 141.7, GSP over Morris Avenue (Route 82)
Installation of expansion joint in Stage 4 at Structure 141.7 (GSP SB) was completed on August 26, 2022.
Paving of approaches to bridge deck at Structure 141.7 (GSP SB) was completed on August 29, 2022.
Installation of the steel reinforcement for bridge deck in Stage 4 at Structure 141.7 (GSP NB) was completed on August 31, 2022.
On September 12, 2022, removal of asphalt overlay over existing bridge deck and approaches in Stage 5 at Structure 141.7 (GSP SB) will begin.
