Weekly Project Update – October 21, 2022
The following work is scheduled over the next three weeks:
Garden State Parkway Mileposts 140 to 143
On September 9, 2022, traffic on the Southbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.1 and 142.2 was shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 5, 6, and 7). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages were deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Southbound Roadway near MP 138.4. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.
On September 30, 2022, traffic on the Northbound Garden State Parkway between mileposts 140.1 and 142.2 was shifted to a new traffic pattern (Stage 5, 6, and 7). All existing travel lanes remain open, but lane widths have been reduced. Portable VMS boards with advanced warning messages were deployed six days prior to the traffic shift on the Northbound Roadway near MP 139.3. The installation of the new traffic pattern was performed under temporary nightly lane closures.
On October 3, 2022, demolition of existing median barrier in stages 5, 6, and 7 began and will continue until approximately October 31, 2022. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Garden State Parkway in the Northbound or Southbound directions from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
Bridge No. 140.2, GSP under Galloping Hill Road
On September 26, 2022, removal of existing sidewalk along North side of the bridge began. This operation will continue until approximately October 21, 2022. This work will require periodic single lane closures on Galloping Hill Road from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
On October 14, 2022, traffic was shifted into Pre-stage C traffic configuration at Galloping Hill Road.
On October 19, 2022, precast concrete construction barrier was installed for Pre-Stage C at the Galloping Hill Road. This work required periodic single lane closures on Galloping Hill Road from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
On or about October 21, 2022, installation of temporary lighting on the bridge at Galloping Hill Road will begin. This work will require periodic single lane closures on Galloping Hill Road from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Bridge No. 141.3, GSP over Route 22 EB
On September 19, 2022, removal of asphalt overlay and demolition of existing bridge deck in Stage 5 at Structure 141.3 (GSP SB) began. This operation will continue until approximately October 26, 2022.
Removal of asphalt overlay and demolition of existing bridge deck in Stage 5 at Structure 141.3 (GSP NB) was completed on October 18, 2022.
On or about October 28, 2022, installation of beam bolsters for Stage 5 at Structure 141.3 (NB/SB) will begin. This operation will continue until approximately November 11, 2022. This work will require single lane closures on GSP SB from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
On or about October 31, 2022, bearing replacement for Stage 5 at Structure 141.3 (NB/SB) will begin. This operation will continue until approximately November 11, 2022.
On or about October 31, 2022, installation of end diaphragms for Stage 5 at Structure 141.3 (NB/SB) will begin. This operation will continue until approximately November 11, 2022.
Bridge No. 141.7, GSP over Morris Avenue (Route 82)
On October 18, 2022, demolition of existing median barrier over the bridge at Structure 141.7 was completed.
On or about October 24, 2022, hydro-demolition of existing bridge deck in Stage 5 at Structure 141.7 (GSP NB/SB) will begin. This operation will continue until approximately November 2, 2022. This work will not require lane closures.
Bridge No. 141.9, GSP over Route 22 WB
On October 6, 2022, removal of asphalt overlay and demolition of existing bridge deck in Stage 5 at Structure 141.9 (GSP NB) began. This operation will continue until approximately November 4, 2022.
On or about October 24, 2022, bearing replacement and bearing area reconstruction for Stage 5 at Structure 141.9 (NB/SB) will begin. This operation will continue until approximately October 28, 2022.
On or about October 28, 2022, installation of beam (S8) for Stage 5 at Structure 141.9 (NB/SB) will begin. This operation will be completed in a single work shift. This work will require single lane closures on GSP SB from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
On or about November 1, 2022, installation of intermediate diaphragms for Stage 5 at Structure 141.9 (NB/SB) will begin. This work may require periodic single lane closures on Route 22 WB from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
